The Environmentally GreenOffice of Mr. John Riggio, RA Architect

The Environmentally Green Office of Mr. John Riggio, RA Architect:

This office has always been a completely Environmentally Green office. I don't know if you are aware of the old style Blueprints that were made for many years in Architect offices and are still used in many offices today. The Blueprint process was based on an Ammonium solution (ferric ammonium citrate) on paper coated with potassium ferricyanide, producing a very noxious odor. Even with a mechanical exhaust to the outside air the Ammonium vapors would go throughout the office space and really made a noxious smell. Of course, this Ammonium smell is harmful to inhale for long periods of time. I was exposed to the Ammonium Blueprints during my apprenticeship years and for the work after that time I only used Non-Ammonium Blueprints. First I used an oil based Blueprint that was odor-free and safe, the Blueprint looked the same and was the same price per sheet as the Ammonium Blueprint. A few years later, after I stopped using a pen plotter, all of my Blueprints were made from an inkjet printer. This inkjet method is the same as your home inkjet printer and is safe to the environment. This Year (2009), the New York City Department Of Buildings has stopped using Blueprints and requires a Blackline Print for scanning, my inkjet method is ready to go with a Blackline Print. So, for all of the years of my own Office, I never exposed myself, my employees, or the outside environment to any harmful Ammonium vapors.
